Sandwell's annual autumn Safer 6 campaign goes online for 2020

The Annual Safer6 campaign this year adapts to extraordinary times by going virtual, Yes folks this year Safer 6 is going online.

This years campaign weeks are as follows

  • Week 1 (21-27 September 2020): Health and wellbeing 

  • Week 2 (28 September-4 October 2020): Exploitation 

  • Week 3 (5-11 October 2020): Domestic abuse

  • Week 4 (12-18 October 2020): Hate crime

  • Week 5 (19-25 October 2020): Modern slavery

  • Week 6 (26 October-1 November 2020): Crime and anti-social behaviour

As well as online activities, the Safer 6 team will be targeting advice and information to people via posters, leaflets and community networks.

The campaign is led by Sandwell Council for the Safer Sandwell Partnership, which brings together the council, Sandwell Police, West Midlands Fire Service and many other partner organisations.

Safer6 2019 Remembered

Organisations target their efforts and provide extra reassurance as the nights draw in – a time when crime and anti-social behaviour can often rise.

This years campaign ran for six weeks starting on Saturday 7 September 2019 with a fun-packed open day with information, advice and entertainment at Haden Cross Community Fire Station, Cradley Heath, from 10am to 4pm.

The 10th annual safer6 campaign then rolled out across the six towns of Sandwell over the following six weeks

Sandwell Crime Prevention Panel attended lots of events during the campaign including hosting a beat the burglar session in Old Warley and a community safety afternoon in West Bromwich.

The 2019 Campaign gets off to a great start at Haden Cross 

This years campaign started with the Grand Launch at the Haden Cross Fire Station fun day event, Representatives from West Midlands Police, Sandwell MBC and a host of other organisations spent the day at the event.

The crime prevention display vehicle was visited by over 100 people during the day with many of them taking away home safety packs, personal alarms, Shed / Window alarms and faraday pouches which are used to protect remote fobs for cars.

The Safer6 roadshow event in Tipton took place on Saturday 21st September it was part of the Canal and Community festival held in the town.

We had plenty of people coming along to see us and take away their free security items.

Week Three sees the roadshow visit Smethwick 

Monday the 23rd September and the Safer6 roadshow visited the Windmills shopping centre, plenty of shoppers came over to visit the various organisations taking part and we also had a visit from a local school.

Week Four and the show rolls into Wednesbury

Tuesday 1st October and the Safer6 roadshow visited Wednesbury the roadshow set up stall at the end of Union Street by the market. Plenty of morning shoppers visited the selection of stalls and kept the volunteers of Sandwell panel busy.

Week Five and Oldbury welcomes Safer6

Monday 7th October and the Safer6 roadshow paid a visit to Oldbury with the partner agencies taking up their places in the Civic Square adjacent to the council house.

West Bromwich rounds of week six of the 2019 campaign

Monday 14th October and the final week of Safer6 got underway with the roadshow visiting West Bromwich town centre Volunteers from the crime prevention panel attending the launch event and had a busy morning talking to visitors to the roadshow.

Friday 18th November and the crime prevention panel held a community safety awareness afternoon on the Tantany estate visiting Ruskin Street and Austen Walk.
